Hairball

cat.pngSome memes you just can’t seem to escape. They follow you around and track you down, mocking you from the corner of your desktop, infiltrating your search results and clogging up your feed reader.

First Anil’s seminal post on Cat Grammar which popped up not only in my feedreader but then again on Techmeme and in various online conversations through the day. Next we have a quick history of blogging from Valleywag in which we find cats as the basic motivation driving each new publishing platform. Finally today, while looking for something totally unrelated to. . . cats, I see that the most popular slideshow on SlideShare is about. . . cats.

    My journey into the depths of cat blogging began with an innocent comment last night on the chris & kristie show. Eric Rice said something in the chat room about cats, and mentioned that all publishing was about cats (maybe b/c of Anil's popst) – so I put one of the cats on the show briefly, Randy Stewart twittered it this morning, and now all of us are suffering from the same 'reticular activation' complex (???? sp) cats are everywhere…

    There’s far more of it than that, I’m afraid. Matt Cutts showed us one of his cats and suggested someone put together a “Cats of SEO” collection, so I did. And I’m happy to accept more submissions.

    Then today, Matt brought out his other cat.

    Why is this surprising? This is totally cat-ty. Cats don’t say much, but notice how they always get their way? They are a lot smarter than we think. When us cat owners are away or asleep, I’m sure they are all IM-ing each other figuring out how they can rule the internet. They are mad that us owners spend so much time on the internet, and clearly sitting on our keyboards doesn’t change much. So…
