Ska in general and Madness, the band in particular, were huge in the early-80s. When Honda came out with a smart little compact car for urban driving called City they called Madness in to do the promo video.
In it, they march around and proclaim City! City! City which everyone loved. Of course, when you say “City!” in Japan it comes out “Shitty!” so kids everywhere shouted out “Shitty!” every time they saw one of these cars which me and my friends thought was hilarious.
